Moving Images

I am going crazy. I worked on 4 pages adding jpeg images that I downloaded. Now I’m working on a page and the image in the media organizer will not drag onto the page. I am doing exactly what I did before. And, when I preview the image, it shows one image as the preview and my chosen image next to it. It keeps reverting back to an image that I chose previously. Yet I want to emphasize that the image I am trying to drag is in my media/image organizer so I don’t understand why it suddenly will not drag. HELP!

How on earth do you add sound (voice or music)

I am currently in need of an effective method to add sound to a book I’m working on. Is this possible? If so, how?

The “Update Book” Button

The Describe panel has a button in the lower right labeled “Update Book”. It is a useful feature for template authors to take advantage of when creating templates. When clicked, it does a search and replace over all pages in your RealeBook for certain tags.

This is best illustrated with an example. On your front cover, type the following:

[title]
by [author]

[email]

Change the font and size of “[title]” so that it is a good title font.

Now, back on the Describe panel, type in a Title and an Author. Edit the business card and put your email address in the email address field. Close the business card edit window. Click the “Update Book” button.

Go back and look at your front cover. The tags have been changed to the actual title, author, and email address. This is an undoable command, of course. Try it (Edit --> Undo).

You can use Update Book tags on any page of your RealeBook, including the covers and internal pages. Here is a complete list of tags:

[title]—Title of the RealeBook, from Descibe panel
[author]—Author of the RealeBook, from Descibe panel
[illustrator]—Illustrator of the RealeBook, from Descibe panel
[photographer]—Photographer of the RealeBook, from Descibe panel
[copyright]—Copyright message of the RealeBook, from Descibe panel

Creating Templates

Templates are special .reb files that open up as “Untitled” in RealeWriter, but are not empty like a RealeBook created with “New RealeBook”. Templates are like stationery in other applications. They serve as a reusable starting point for creating RealeBooks. Teachers might create templates for an exercise to stimulate their students’ thinking in the right direction. Trainers might use templates to introduce new RealeWriter users to basic and advanced features.

Templates are not distinguishable in your computer’s file system, so you might want to have “(Template)” at the end of the file name, e.g. “Cars and Trucks (Template).reb”. In the RealeLibrary system, a template indication is given on a RealeBook’s home page and users can search for templates.

When creating a template, you’ll want to work on a “Master” file, which will not be a template. Periodically, save that file as a template (File --> Save As Template). When saving as a template, a new file is created. After saving as a template, you will still be working on the “Master” file in RealeWriter. A convenient file naming scheme is to put “(Master)” in the name the “Master” file, and continually overwrite the template file with a file with “(Template)” in the name.

For example, if I want to create a “Cars and Trucks” template, I would work on a master file called “Cars and Trucks (Master).reb” and occasionally save as template to “Cars and Trucks (Template).reb”.

Creating a template is typically an iterative process:
1. Create or make changes the Master file.
2. Save as template to template file.
3. Open the template file you just saved. It will open as “Untitled”. Try using it as a template user would use it.
4. Make necessary adjustments to the Master file.
5. Go back and repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 until your template turns out just right.

If you are a RealeLibrary manager and want to add a template to your RealeLibrary:
1. Open your Master file.
2. Contribute/approve to your library, but check the “Approve as template” checkbox. Think of that as “Save as Template”, except you saved your Master as a template to your RealeLibrary.
3. When “opening” the RealeBook on your RealeLibrary, you may want to change the Title and Author in the system if they were blanks to fill in within the template.

If you are contributing a RealeBook to someone else’s RealeLibrary and would like it approved as a template, be sure to tell the manager that it should be approved as a template.

How do I use clip art or other “drawings or documents” as inserted images. it seems that I can only insert photos into the books.

Assembling & stapling books

I have printed and assembled several RealeBooks recently, but I often struggle with keeping the pages straight as I flip them over to staple them. Also, sometimes I do not get the staple right on the fold. I am using a “long reach” stapler.

As I was browsing through the Writers Room Forum, though, I saw the Community Projects section with the link to the news story about the Rotary Club working together with the Loveland schools to make large quantities of books. The newscast showed them using some kind of triangular guide as they were stapling the books. Can you tell me where I could get something like that? Do you have any other tips on stapling the books?

Typically we print in the Classic size and have the pages laminated before stapling them all together. It makes them a little tricky to line up, but we’ve found they last much better when they are laminated.

I am trying to figure out how to print books on this printer. It doesn’t have duplex. I’ve tried flipping, reordering, rotating, etc. and can’t seem to get it right. Any ideas? I’m sure it is something simple that I am overlooking…

I printed out my Realebook in classic and 2-up. I have 28 pictures to print (14 pairs) but only half the pictures printed. What am I doing wrong?

Our computer technician put Realebooks on all our computers on the lab and my class of fourth graders is almost done creating their first books. I would like to create a library that they can share and that I can link to our class website. I don’t know how to create a library. Can you help?

Pictures won’t print

I am a novice at this and am feeling a little frustrated. I have created a book which I have shared with others via e-mail but can’t seem to print properly. When I attempt to print the book, I get a message “Out of Memory” inside a gray box wherever images should appear. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
